About me

Acrylics by Anthony Dunphy

Anthony Dunphy

I’m a Canadian artist living in Japan, creating vibrant, intuitive paintings inspired by movement, colour, and the rhythm of everyday life. My work blends energy and harmony, bringing warmth and presence into the spaces it enters. Each piece is created with the intention of uplifting the viewer and creating a sense of connection.

Artist Statement

My work is rooted in a deep appreciation for movement, colour, and the emotional resonance found in everyday life. Whether I’m painting maritime scenes, vintage automobiles, or quiet moments from the world around me, I approach each piece with an intuitive sense of rhythm and balance. I’m drawn to the way light shifts across a surface, how colour can shape mood, and how a single gesture in paint can suggest energy, calm, or memory.

After a career in the Canadian Navy, I settled in Japan, where the surrounding landscapes and cultural atmosphere continue to influence my practice. I work primarily in acrylics, building layers that create depth and atmosphere while keeping the composition open and inviting. My goal is to create paintings that feel alive—works that bring warmth, presence, and a sense of connection into the spaces they inhabit. Each piece is an exploration of harmony, crafted with the intention of uplifting the viewer and offering a moment of stillness or inspiration.
